The IPC Zoom simulation of January 11, 2021, was very well attended and lively.
Most of the participants were asked to play the role of IPC Parliament members. They voted on a constitution as well as legislation. Other participants were asked to play the role of regional and world leaders such as Israel’s Prime Minister, Palestinian Authority president, Hamas leader, U.S President, Germany’s leader, World Bank President etc. We asked all the participants to react to the Constitution and legislation based on their specific role.
Most of the conversation focused on the legitimacy of such a government. The Israeli prime minister objected to the idea that the people of Israel and Palestine could create a common government without first obtaining permission from his government.
The president of the IPC disputed the need to obtain permission from either the Israeli or the Palestinian governments. He asserted that the legitimacy for the IPC comes from the people not from the existing Israeli or the Palestinian governments. He further disputed their legal authority to block the creation of the IPC nor the moral legitimacy or the technical ability to stop it . He further pointed out that IPC elections would take place over the Internet in a similar fashion as the country of Estonia with 9 million people (as well as many other municipalities and public companies) holds their elections exclusively on the internet.
